Common questions
How much fragrance oil do I add to soy wax?
For soy wax, use 6% of the wax weight for a light scent, 8% for medium, or 10% for a strong scent throw. For example, 200g of soy wax needs 16g of fragrance oil at medium strength. CandleLab calculates this for you automatically.
Is fragrance load measured by weight or volume?
Always by weight, not volume. Fragrance load percentages refer to grams of fragrance oil per 100 grams of wax. A digital kitchen scale gives the most accurate results.
Can I add too much fragrance oil?
Yes. Exceeding the maximum fragrance load causes the oil to seep out (called 'sweating'), produces poor scent throw when burning, and can be a fire hazard. Stick to the maximums for your wax type.
Why not fill the container 100%?
Wax contracts slightly as it cools and the wick takes up space. Filling to 90% leaves room for a clean, level surface and makes it easier to centre your wick before pouring.
